SEO for security companies: visible when a client urgently needs a guard service

I make sure your security company shows up on the three search paths through which clients actually find a guard or property protection service: the urgent search with a location in Google Maps, the problem search before the first contact, and the check of your licence and certifications before a contract is signed.

The short version

  • Clients find a security service through three search paths: urgently with a location in Google Maps, as a problem search before the first contact (“property protection costs”, “looking for a burglary protection company”) and as a check of licence and certification before signing a contract.
  • A security company that has no premises where customers are received must hide its business address in the Google Business Profile under the Google guidelines and specify a service area instead; otherwise the profile violates the guidelines and can be suspended.
  • The security guard trade requires a licence under § 34a GewO (German Trade Regulation Act); the licensing authority checks reliability, financial circumstances, the owner’s expert knowledge examination and a business liability insurance with a minimum cover of 1,000,000 € for personal injury under § 14 BewachV (German Security Guard Ordinance): details a client asks about before the contract.
  • A company whose staff only hold the instruction certificate must not advertise them on the website as “examined for expert knowledge”; the IHK expert knowledge examination is only mandatory for guard staff in certain conflict-prone activities.
  • From 500 € / month, hourly rate 50 €, cancellable monthly, free initial consultation.

Before a client calls, they have usually already googled: for a guard service nearby, for a solution to a specific security problem or for your company name. Symbolic image.

Three search paths through which a security company loses or wins contracts

Which pages your website needs is decided by how the client searches, and that differs a lot depending on how urgent their need is. Someone who had an attempted break-in overnight types “security service Essen” and often calls one of the first numbers in Google Maps. Someone planning an event first searches for the problem, for example “how many security staff for 500 guests”, and does not know a provider yet. Someone preparing a tender or a framework agreement already has two or three providers on the shortlist and is now checking whether licence, insurance and certification are in order.

A website that merely claims “We guard everything” and otherwise shows a contact form serves none of these three paths reliably. That is why, for every security company, I determine which path brings the most enquiries and build the website in that order.

Three search paths to a security company and what the website needs for each Three columns: urgent search with location, problem search before the first contact, check of licence and certification before signing a contract. Each column shows an example search and the building blocks the website needs for it. Three search paths – and what your website needs for them Each path leads to a different part of the website. If that part is missing, the contract often goes elsewhere. 1 · Urgent search with location Someone needs a guard service nearby right now EXAMPLE SEARCH with location “security service Essen” “property protection company near me” WHAT THE WEBSITE NEEDS Google profile set up as a service area Services, operating area, phone 24/7 availability visible Service page per operating area 2 · Problem search Someone knows their problem, but no provider yet EXAMPLE SEARCH no industry term “property protection cost per hour” “how many security staff for an event” WHAT THE WEBSITE NEEDS One page per service type, not just “Services” Rule of thumb, process, price range first Real deployment figures instead of clichés Contact directly below the answer 3 · Check before the contract Provider shortlisted, now the evidence counts WHAT IS CHECKED before contract “security company XY licence” “security company XY certification” WHAT THE WEBSITE NEEDS § 34a licence, insurance cover Documented certifications, no clichés References instead of blanket claims Direct contact for follow-up questions Path 3 often decides who gets the contract – it needs real evidence, not advertising language. viktorpasztor.de · SEO for security companies

Urgent search with location: your Google Business Profile needs a service area, not an address

For “security service Essen”, Google usually shows the map with a handful of providers near the top, often directly below the ads; whoever is missing there usually loses the urgent search to a competitor with a well-maintained profile. For security companies there is a particularity that plays no role in most service industries: many guard and security services have no premises where customers are actually received, or for security reasons they do not want to show the address of their control centre publicly at all.

Under the Google guidelines for Business Profiles, this is explicitly provided for as a separate profile type: if a business has no storefront where customers show up, the business address is hidden and a service area is set up instead, up to 20 areas such as cities or postcodes, as a rule of thumb no larger than roughly two hours’ driving time from the company’s base. Only one profile per company is intended; additional profiles, for example one per city in the operating area without a staffed location of its own, violate the guidelines and can lead to suspension. Independently of the Google profile, the legal notice (Impressum) remains mandatory on the website: under § 5 DDG (German Digital Services Act), it must contain the address at which your company is established.

The control centre is often the part of the business a security company does not want to show online as an address; the service area in the Google profile solves exactly that. Symbolic image.

If your profile was originally created with an address, this can be changed later: in the profile under “Location”, switch off the option “Show business address to customers”; after that, Google only shows the service area. In addition, I set up the category, the services (property protection, plant security, event security – depending on what your business actually offers), a reachable phone number and the link to the matching operating-area page. If your profile only needs to become visible in Maps and the website should otherwise stay as it is, the local SEO consulting is enough.

Problem search before the first contact: one page per service type instead of a list of services

Some clients search for the problem first and only then for a provider. Someone who types “how many security staff for 500 guests” or “property protection cost per hour” does not know a name yet, and a homepage that merely lists “guarding, plant security, event security, patrol service” does not answer this search. If your page answers it first, the client gets to know you before they even start a tender.

This is what such searches look like, and this is how a page answers them (examples, without search volume data):

  • “How many security staff for an event” A page in the event security section whose first paragraph names the rule of thumb that determines staffing levels (number of visitors, admission control, alcohol sales, threat level), then explains when a security and rescue concept needs to be coordinated with the responsible authority – this is regulated differently depending on the federal state and the size of the event.
  • “Property protection cost per hour” A page that first explains what the hourly rate actually depends on (staff qualification, night surcharge, dog handler, number of patrols), then what should be in the quote before you compare.
  • “Looking for a burglary protection company” A page that first shows which measure fits the specific type of building (patrol service, silent alarm response, mobile intervention unit), then what distinguishes an alarm connection from a plain patrol.
  • “Advantages of outsourcing plant security” A page that first names what stays in-house and what is handed over, then which transition period for staff and ID badges is realistic.

The page structure follows a fixed pattern: one main page per service type, below it, where the search volume justifies it, one page per typical question, each linked internally to the contact page and the matching operating area. Which questions these are in your catchment area is shown by the search analysis at the start of our work together.

Where the substance for these pages comes from

The rule of thumb, the process and the price range come from your business, not from a template: a conversation or bullet points about real deployments are enough. I write the text on that basis, and you check it professionally before it goes online, especially for staffing levels and prices, because a wrong rule of thumb ultimately causes a trust problem with the client, not just an SEO problem.

Check before the contract: licence, insurance and certification must be documented

Before a framework agreement or a tender, the client usually already has two or three providers on the shortlist; now what can be proven decides, no longer the advertising language. The security guard trade requires a licence under § 34a GewO (German Trade Regulation Act): the authority refuses the licence if facts call into question the reliability of the company or its management, if the financial circumstances are disordered, if the owner or the operations management cannot prove a passed IHK expert knowledge examination, or if no liability insurance is proven. Under § 14 BewachV (German Security Guard Ordinance), at least 1,000,000 € for personal injury, 250,000 € for property damage, 15,000 € for the loss of guarded items and 12,500 € for pure financial losses must be covered per claim event. The last two risks may only be excluded if all clients have demonstrably agreed to this restriction.

For guard staff, in addition: under § 34a para. 1a GewO, only persons who are reliable and can present an IHK certificate of the 40-hour instruction in the legal and professional basics may be deployed; a passed expert knowledge examination is also sufficient. For certain, particularly conflict-prone activities this is not enough; there a passed IHK expert knowledge examination is mandatory: patrols in public traffic areas or in private areas with actual public traffic, protection against shoplifters, guarding the entrance area of discotheques, as well as guarding refugee accommodation or access-controlled major events in a managerial function. Both certificates are recorded in the security guard register (Bewacherregister) at the Federal Statistical Office, together with the result of the reliability check that the responsible authority carries out, among other things, with enquiries to the police and the domestic intelligence service. The register is not publicly accessible.

Property protection usually means: a building like this, whose operator checks the provider’s licence and insurance sum before signing the contract. Symbolic image.

For the website this means: licence, insurance cover, staff qualification and, if available, a voluntary certification such as DIN 77200 or membership in the BDSW (German Federal Association of the Security Industry) belong visibly and with real details on a page of their own, not as a vague claim in a subordinate clause.

Wording on the website Permissible? Why
“Certified according to DIN 77200” Yes, only with a valid certificate The service provider is certified by a certification body according to the requirements of DIN 77200-3; without a valid certificate the statement is misleading under § 5 UWG (German Unfair Competition Act), and using a certification mark without authorisation can additionally fall under no. 2 of the annex to § 3 para. 3 UWG.
“All staff examined for expert knowledge” Usually wrong The IHK expert knowledge examination is only mandatory for certain activities (see above); most guard staff only need the 40-hour instruction. A blanket claim about the entire workforce usually cannot be substantiated.
“Licence under § 34a GewO, issued by …” (responsible authority) Yes Factual, verifiable statement; the client can inspect the licence notice on request. A “security guard register no.” is not suitable for this: the register is not public, and under § 4 BewachRV (German Security Guard Register Ordinance) the identification number serves only to assign data.
“Market leader in the region” or “largest security service in the city” Not without evidence Claims of a leading position are only permissible under § 5 UWG with evidence, for example a traceable market share or headcount figure from an independent source.
“Fixed price per deployment hour” without further details Delicate The hourly rate depends heavily on qualification, time of day and type of deployment; an unconditionally stated fixed price that then differs in the quote creates exactly the trust gap that path 3 is supposed to close.
“Member of the BDSW” Yes, only with an existing membership Factual statement about association membership; often combined with the voluntary commitment to the association’s code of conduct.

The table is a classification for the text work, not legal advice; when in doubt, your legal counsel checks the specific wording (legal status: October 2026). In practice this means for the website: licence, insurance, qualification and references in detail and with real figures, blanket and leading-position claims only with evidence, and when in doubt not at all.

What I take care of and what stays with you

My work

  • Search analysis per operating area and service type: which searches bring contracts and which only bring visitors
  • Setting up and maintaining the Google Business Profile as a service area, without disclosing the address of your control centre
  • Page structure with one page per service type and per important client question, texts based on your professional substance
  • A page for licence, insurance cover and certifications, with your real details instead of clichés
  • Technology: loading time, display on mobile, structured data
  • Monthly report without jargon: which searches brought visitors, which pages brought enquiries, what comes next

Your role

  • Professional substance per service type, as a conversation or bullet points: rules of thumb, typical processes, real price ranges
  • Approval of every text before publication, especially for staffing level, price and certification details
  • Up-to-date documents on licence, insurance and certification whenever something changes

What I do not offer: a ranking guarantee or a date by which a certain position is reached. Anyone who promises that is promising something they do not control.

If you want to know where your website stands today before the ongoing work begins, there is the assessment as an SEO audit from 600 €: a report with the gaps on your website and the order in which to close them.

Concrete figures, not “on request”.

from 500 € / month
Hourly rate 50 € · cancellable monthly · free initial consultation · pricing logic on SEO costs

Whether it stays at 500 € or more hours are needed depends on three things.

  • Competitive density in your catchment area: property protection in a big city takes more effort than a niche service type in a medium-sized town
  • Condition of your website: an incomplete Google profile or a page that is unusable on mobile first has to be cleaned up technically
  • Number of service types and operating areas that should become visible: every service type brings its own client questions

Frequently asked questions about SEO for security companies

What does SEO for a security company cost per month?

From 500 € / month at an hourly rate of 50 €, cancellable monthly. After the free initial consultation you receive a quote with the number of hours for your business; there is no minimum term.

Do I have to show the address of my control centre online?

Not in the Google Business Profile: if your business has no premises where customers are received, you hide the address there and specify a service area instead; that is what the Google guidelines provide for such businesses. On your website, the legal notice (Impressum) remains mandatory: under § 5 DDG (German Digital Services Act), it must contain the address at which your company is established. If the control centre is not also the registered office, its address generally does not belong in the legal notice.

May I advertise with “staff examined for expert knowledge”?

Only if that is actually true. The IHK expert knowledge examination is legally required only for certain conflict-prone activities; most guard staff have the 40-hour instruction instead. I word this in the text as precisely as your actual staffing allows.

How long does SEO for a security company take?

I do not promise a deadline, because the catchment area, the service types and the condition of the website determine the time frame. The Google Business Profile does not need new pages and is therefore usually the first visible step; pages on service types and client questions take time until Google categorises them. In the monthly report you see every step and every change.

Google Ads or SEO for security companies?

Google Ads delivers clicks from day one and stops with the budget; SEO needs lead time and then keeps running without click costs. For the urgent search with location, ads can be a bridge until the Google profile is in place. For a question like “property protection cost per hour”, the page that answers it counts, and no ad alone does that. The two do not exclude each other.

SEO agency for security companies – what to look for?

Three points: the agency distinguishes between the instruction certificate and the expert knowledge examination instead of calling everything “examined”. It guarantees neither rankings nor deadlines. And you know who does the work. With me, that is one person; who that is, you can read on the page about me.

Is SEO worthwhile if I win contracts mainly through tenders?

Yes, but with a different focus: instead of the urgent search with location, the website then mainly targets path 3, a page where clients find your licence, insurance cover and certification within a few minutes. In the formal procurement procedure, the submitted documents count in the end; the website works beforehand, for example when a contracting authority selects providers to submit bids in a restricted tender or negotiated procedure, or when a private client gathers information before the enquiry.
